Selangor Foundation Headquarters from 1970-1978 under the Selangor state government administration.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

The Selangor Foundation was established on November 5, 1970 under the Company\u2019s Act 1965 as a Company Limited By Guarantee without share capital.<\/span><\/p>\n

The objective of setting up the Selangor Foundation is to provide motivation and education aid to the people of Selangor particularly those who are under-priviledged but with potential.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Selangor Foundation was established by the late Dato\u2019 Haji Harun bin Haji Idris, the state\u2019s leader at that time, humbled and concerned by the education level of Malay children in the rural areas who were left far behind especially in mastering the English Language, Mathematics and Science.<\/p>\n

His observation as the Menteri Besar Selangor from 1964 to 1976 discovers that the number of Malay students in prestigious city schools like Kuala Lumpur was inferior.\nThe late leader felt that steps must be taken to overcome these students\u2019 weaknesses to prevent further hampering their chances to advance to higher level.<\/p>\n

Therefore, a proposal was tabled to the Selangor State Government to establish a separate body for education that can generate fund to assist underprivileged children especially from rural areas or districts far from Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n

Together with 10 other Board Members who were appointed from amongst Heads of Department, academicians and intelectuals, The late Dato\u2019 Haji Harun Bin Idris as the Chairman of Selangor Foundation Board of Trustees as specified in the \u2018Memorandum and Articles Association of Yayasan Selangor\u2019 had taken steps to realise the education goal as planned.<\/p>\n

With an initial intake of male students in 1971 from areas around Klang, Kajang, Ulu langat and Petaling who were then placed in the Dr Latiff Hostel, Persiaran Gurney, Kuala Lumpur, hence the aspiration of the Selangor Foundation Board of Trustees. They aspired to see Selangor State children from the rural areas to have the opportunity to study in prestigious schools in Kuala Lumpur such as Victoria Institution Secondary School and St. John Secondary School was met.<\/p>\n

The Dr Latiff Hostel was named after Dr Abdul Latiff bin Abdul Razak, a native of Selangor from Penambang, Kuala Selangor.<\/p>\n

Motivated by the success story of Doctor Abdul Latiff as a child from the rural area who became successful in academics and career, Selangor Foundation hopes that the children from Selangor who have been given the opportunity to study in city schools and placed in Doktor Latiff Hostel will be moved by him to work as hard and diligent to gain success.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the intake of the first batch of female students sponsored by Selangor Foundation were placed in the Sri Putri School Kuala Lumpur prior to the first Selangor Foundation hostel for girls that was built in 1975 and named as Toh Puan Norashikin Hostel.<\/p>\n

The Toh Puan Norashikin Hostel and another boys\u2019 hostel, the Tun Dr Ismail Hostel, were royally officiated on October 19, 1975 by HRH Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Hishamuddin \u2018Alam Shah Al-Haj and HRH Tengku Ampuan Rahimah binti Al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Aziz (Langkat).\nThe Tun Dr Ismail Hostel and the Toh Puan Norashikin Hostel were named after Malaysia\u2019s second Deputy Prime Minister, to commemorate his services for country.<\/p>\n

Selangor Foundation later then added two (2) more hostels, the Selangor Foundation Klang Hostel (boys and girls) in 1988 and Selangor Foundation Sabak Bernam Hostel (boys only) in 1994 in order to fulfil the aspiration of students who wish to be a part of Selangor Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/div>
